The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status without pay until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted activities will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.

Seeing is Believing – NHB Optometry Clinic Available for Retirees

Along with active duty, drilling reservists and active-duty family members, NHB Optometry Clinic is accepting retirees for eye exams on a space available basis.

Eligible retirees with TRICARE Prime, Standard and TRICARE For Life coverage do not need a referral to call the Puget Sound Military Appointment Center appointment line at 800-404-4506 and request an eye exam at NHB’s clinic. Appointments are also available to active-duty dependents for children age seven 7 and older. 

Patients needing to order glasses or needing repair of military glasses do not need appointments and are welcome to walk in during normal clinic hours.

TRICARE Prime Active Duty and Dependents: One routine eye exam a year.
 
TRICARE Prime, Tricare Plus Retirees and Dependents:  One routine eye exam every 2 years with network provider.
 
TRICARE for Life:  One routine eye exam every 2 years with network provider.

Other Information

  • We provide glasses for active duty and retirees only. Outside prescriptions are accepted.
  • Refractive Surgery (PRK/Lasik) is for active duty only. Ophthalmology Clinic and Refractive Surgery Center
  • Specialty medically necessary contact lenses are on a case-by-case review
